The information we have at hand says the Dagon was the chief god of the Philistines, whom they believed that He sent rain and assured a bountiful harvest. But the Philistines just like most of the pagan neighbors were polytheistic worshiped (many gods). The more gods they could have on there side the secure they felt. That was why they wanted the “ark” The Ideas was that if it helped the Israelites it could help them too. Latter they realized that the Ark of God of Israel can not be compared with their gods. Jesus is not shallow. Jesus is deep. He comes across like just an ordinary man…yet it does not take long to know that he is not ordinary. He is not an idler who roamed the village roads of Galilee and sat in the city squares of Palestine just pulling off some stunts because he could. He was not a celebrity whose life depended on a batch of wild shirt-waving funs screaming their heads off. He was and is a man on assignment. He was born to die. True He is like a prophet, yet he is unlike any other prophet we know– He is like Elijah, yet unlike Elijah…He is like John the Baptist- yet unlike John the Baptist…He is comparable yet incomparable.
